The KC Royals have had a lot of great players, but not many are in the Hall of Fame. Frank White is one who has been gypped from making it to Cooperstown.

MLB.com put together a list of the best player from every team not to be in the MLB Hall of Fame. For the Kansas City Royals, it was Frank White. Jeffrey Flanagan wrote a companion piece where he touched on five Royals who deserve to be in the Hall of Fame. Frank White topped the list, as he should.

"Of course, the debate has raged on for years in Kansas City as to why Bill Mazeroski, a Hall of Famer with statistics nearly identical to White’s, is in the Hall of Fame and White is not. White’s last year on the ballot was in 1996, when he received 3.8 percent of the vote, just shy of the 5 percent minimum to stay on the ballot."

This is disappointing for sure, as White had the numbers to be in the Hall of Fame. He was an incredible defensive player, proven by his eight Gold Glove awards and he participated in five All-Star games over the course of his career. He’s in the Royals Hall of Fame, but never did get into Cooperstown, which is baffling.

If the Royals had been bad when White played there, maybe I’d understand him being gypped a little bit more, but that wasn’t the case. Kansas City won a World Series while White was on the team (he was a key contributor) and were consistently a good team. The Royals went to two World Series during White’s tenure there and he was crowned ALCS MVP in 1980.

Frank White deserves to be in the Hall of Fame for the career he had with the KC Royals.

The other players included on Flanagan’s list were Amos Otis, Willie Wilson, Kevin Appier, and Dan Quisenberry. That’s quite the group listed here, but it is worth mentioning that it’s much more difficult to get into the MLB Hall of Fame than it is the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The Kansas City Royals haven’t always been a top notch organization, but their lack of players in the Hall of Fame is disappointing. Frank White not being in despite his accolades prove that it is very difficult to get into the Hall of Fame in baseball.
