What did we learn about the Denver Broncos?

This was a really ugly game for the Broncos, as they fell 37-12 to the Raiders. A lot of that damage came in the second half too, which I don’t know if that should make Broncos fans feel better or worse.

There have been times this season where the Broncos have looked like they might be rounding the corner. They’ve made two late game comebacks the past two weeks, winning one of them, and it seemed like maybe this young team was starting to find its footing.

Then, this game happened. Nothing went well for the Broncos. Drew Lock threw four interceptions, the run game did next to nothing, and the defense allowed over 200 rushing yards on the ground. It was about as bad of a performance a team could have and really had to make Broncos fans wonder if this rebuild is worth continuing or if they should tear it all down and rebuild again.

What we learned is that Lock might not be the guy for the Broncos. I’m a firm believer in giving a quarterback more than two years to prove himself, but unfortunately that’s not what the rest of the NFL thinks these days. With rookie quarterbacks coming in and winning big games so early into their career (looking at you, Kyler Murray), that’s the expectation all young quarterbacks drafted early have to live up to now.

Next up: The Broncos return home to square off against the same Dolphins team that took it to the Chargers. It won’t be an easy match-up for Denver, but if Lock wants to prove he’s the guy, the time to do that is now because he’s running out of time. That game will take place in the late window of games.
