Le’Veon Bell hasn’t made the kind of impact that Kansas City Chiefs fans were hoping for.

There was a lot of excitement when Le’Veon Bell decided to sign with the Kansas City Chiefs after the New York Jets released him. Bell chose the Chiefs over the Bills and the Dolphins and him coming to KC was an exciting moment for Chiefs Kingdom.

Here was a guy who used to run roughshod over the Chiefs defense time and time again. No matter what time of the year the Chiefs and Steelers were playing, Bell would put up insane numbers. When he signed with the defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs, the hope was that he’d be able to replicate those performances he had with the Steelers.

So far, however, Bell hasn’t been the player fans expected him to be. Sure, he’s only been a member of this offense for three games, but the run game in general hasn’t been helped at all with the acquisition of Bell.

Fans haven’t seen an impressive game from Le’Veon Bell in a Kansas City Chiefs uniform yet.

There’s still a lot of football to be played this season, but through his first three games as a member of the Chiefs, Bell has just 16 carries for 54 yards and no touchdowns. Bell was also someone known for his ability to catch passes out of the backfield, but he’s had only four receptions for 26 yards thus far.

This doesn’t mean that Bell can’t still be a factor in this offense. The Chiefs are only halfway through the regular season schedule and then they’ll play at least three playoff games, which means Bell has some time to get going. He’s learning a new offense and while 28 isn’t old for most positions, running back is the exception there.

As I mentioned above, the Chiefs rushing attack hasn’t been very good in general since Bell came to town. Before he was activated, we saw Clyde Edwards-Helaire destroy the Bills on the ground, but since then, the run game hasn’t been all that effective. It’s possible that teams are zeroing in more on stopping the run because they don’t want to let Edwards-Helaire and Bell beat them, but shouldn’t defenses make sure Patrick Mahomes doesn’t beat them? That seems like the more obvious approach.

Le’Veon Bell is a very talented running back, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed with the production the Chiefs have gotten from him so far. The good news is that there’s still a lot of football left to be played and Bell should be able to get it going as the season progresses.
