What did we learn about the Los Angeles Chargers?

The only team in the AFC West to lose this weekend was the Chargers, who blew a huge lead against the Broncos. This was the fourth straight game in which the Chargers have blown a lead and the third time they’ve been handed a loss as a result.

Prior to the collapse, the Chargers looked pretty good and the boo birds were out in full force in Denver. Justin Herbert continues on his quest to win the Rookie of the Year title by throwing 278 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. The two picks were bad throws, but the three touchdown passes were absolute gems. That’s what you’re going to get from a rookie quarterback.

Unfortunately for Herbert, he plays for a team destined to choke time and time again. The Chargers defense couldn’t stop Denver on the final drive of the game and the Broncos went on to win it 31-30 in a game that shouldn’t have ended that way.

What we learned about the Chargers is that while they have their quarterback of the future, the team is still not quite ready to compete for a playoff spot just yet. Maybe next year things will change for the better for LA, but they’re buried in the bottom of the division after this loss and rebounding looks bleak.

Next up: The Chargers return home to host the Raiders in the late window of games. They might not be able to make the playoffs by this point, but LA can shake things up with a win against Vegas.
