Kansas City Chiefs: Six star performances vs Jets in Week 8
5. Tyreek Hill
Tyreek Hill had himself a nice day at Arrowhead, grabbing four catches for 98 yards and two touches. Half of his catches were for touchdowns!
Hill’s first touchdown came with roughly a minute left in the first quarter. Patrick Mahomes connected with Hill on a 36-yard pass that went for six points and put the reigning champs up 14-3. After scoring, Hill jumped into the stands and celebrated with Chiefs Kingdom the best he could in these strange times.
The second touchdown for Hill was on a 41-yard pass that allowed the Chiefs to go up 35-9 and put the game away for good. As good as Hill’s performance was on Sunday, he didn’t even have the best stats for the team (more on that in a bit).
4. Armani Watts
Armani Watts hasn’t had the kind of career that fans were expecting him to when the Chiefs drafted him in the fourth round in 2018. Be that as it may, he made a couple of nice plays on Sunday that merited him a spot on this list.
The first play was blocking the Jets’ fourth field goal attempt right before half time. Had the Jets made that field goal, it’d have been 21-12 in favor of the Chiefs heading into the locker room, but New York would have had momentum and gotten the ball back to start the second half.
The second play was when the Chiefs punted the ball and Watts nearly downed the ball at the one-yard line. Unfortunately, it was ultimately ruled a touchback, but A for effort there, Watts. Even though Watts hasn’t been the impact player fans were hoping for defensively, we all know how much this team values good special teams players and Watts proved he can be that.
3. Tommy Townsend
Speaking of special teams, time to give Tommy Townsend a shoutout! The Chiefs had a 4th and 4 at midfield and lined up to punt, but instead of following through with the punt, Townsend threw the ball to a wide open Byron Pringle to give the Chiefs a fresh set of downs.
Townsend has been playing well as a rookie and had some big shoes to fill, considering Dustin Colquitt had been the Chiefs punter for 15 years before Townsend came in. Townsend has been doing a nice enough job that fans aren’t upset about Colquitt no longer being with the team and have embraced the punter from Florida.
Townsend’s throw to Pringle was a gem of a throw too and he did it fearlessly. The Chiefs scored one play after this play too, so clearly Townsend is a good luck charm.
