The KC Chiefs rolled the winless Jets and Patrick Mahomes had himself a day.

There hasn’t been much discussion this year when it comes to Patrick Mahomes being in the MVP discussion. Mahomes proved with his performance against the Jets that he’s still the best in the league and deserves to be involved in that MVP conversation. Yes, this blowout win by the Kansas City Chiefs came against the winless Jets, but other quarterbacks haven’t even had these kind of days against the Jets.

Mahomes ended his eighth start of the year against the Jets going 31 of 42 for 416 yards and five touchdowns. The Chiefs didn’t really run the ball on Sunday, but that could have been because Mahomes was firing on all cylinders, so why go away from passing the ball when it’s working well?

This game was closer than fans would have cared for in the first half and the Jets actually were hanging in there prior to half time. Even at that point, Mahomes had three touchdown passes and was putting on a clinic. The difference is that he continued to do that in the second half while the Jets couldn’t do much at all offensively and the final score of 35-9 reflected that.

Patrick Mahomes showed why he deserves to be in the MVP discussion after the KC Chiefs dismantled the Jets.

Mahomes is talented enough that he’s going to be in the MVP conversation every year. He hasn’t been the frontrunner this year simply due to Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson looking like the more obvious choices, but Mahomes has thrown less picks than both of those guys and his squad has lost just one game).

Mahomes hasn’t had to play at an MVP level this season because both his defense and rushing attack have helped out this season, but the run game was nowhere to be found in this match-up. It was the revenge game for Le’Veon Bell, but he didn’t do much of anything, carrying the ball six times for seven yards and he was stopped on a 4th and 1 attempt early in the second half.

The defense came out sluggish to start the game, but settled down after half time, shutting the Jets down. Even with the defense not playing great in the first half, they still kept New York out of the end zone and held them to field goals.

Special teams was brilliant once again and I’d be remiss if I didn’t give Tommy Townsend a shoutout for that throw on the fourth down conversion early in the game. Way to go, Townsend!

Mahomes played so well and did his job well enough that it paved the way for backup Chad Henne to come in and play for the second straight game. Fantasy owners might have been angry, but hey, the guy got you five touchdowns and over 400 yards passing. I think you’ll be okay.

dark. Next. These Players Would Make Chiefs Even Scarier

With the win, the Kansas City Chiefs move to 7-1 and the New York Jets drop to 0-8.
