The Kansas City Chiefs face the Broncos for the first time this season. What should fans be watching for?

The Kansas City Chiefs are 1-1 in the AFC West and hope to move to 2-1 in the division after this weekend when they travel to Denver to face the Broncos. Denver is 2-3 on the year and have rattled off two straight wins after starting the season at 0-3. Injuries have been a theme for the Broncos this year, but they look like they’re finally starting to get healthy again.

The Broncos did what they could this offseason to try and make their offense faster and one that could compete with the Chiefs. We’ll see how well they did at trying to close the gap when the two meet up at Empower Field at Mile High (that’s seriously the name of the stadium now) on Sunday afternoon in the late window of games.

Here’s what fans should be watching for when the Chiefs travel to Denver.

Mathieu vs Fant

One of the match-ups I’m the most intrigued by this weekend is Tyrann Mathieu likely shadowing Broncos tight end Noah Fant. This will be Fant’s first game back since he was injured in Week 4. He has the ability to be one of the better tight ends in the league and the Chiefs know all about having a good tight end.

Mathieu tends to get a lot of work against tight ends, so if he’s on Fant this week, it could be quite the battle. Hopefully the Chiefs don’t put Daniel Sorensen on Fant like they tried to do by putting him on Darren Waller two weeks ago. That would not be good.

If it’s the Honey Badger going up against Fant, however, it’ll be interesting to see how Fant does against one of the league’s best safeties.
