Quarterback Situation

Adrian Martinez was named the starting quarterback and will likely keep that job for next week, but Saturday’s game certainly displayed just how much little room for error there is for the junior quarterback with Luke McCaffrey’s involvement in the Husker offense.

While he didn’t play out of his mind, Martinez had a solid game and made good decisions for the most part. I would expect McCaffrey to continue as the backup QB and also continue to help out the offense by slotting in as the running back or wide receiver from time to time as well, as it obviously had effective moments like his 47-yard run out of the backfield on the third play of the game. This could cause the defense some trouble since it is such a different look.

Both quarterbacks did well keeping the ball moving and getting plays off quickly to keep the Ohio State defense guessing, but two untimely turnovers really kept the Huskers from earning a more respectable scoreline.

Against a tough Buckeye defense, I would say it is safe to say that both Nebraska quarterbacks did well in their first outing of the season and will look to get better as the season grows.
