vs Atlanta Falcons in Week 16 (Dec. 27)

Say what you will about the Atlanta Falcons, but they should really be 3-3 right now. They blew huge leads against both the Cowboys and Bears and as a result, it took them until Week 6 to finally win a game. They fired Dan Quinn after they went 0-5 and now they really look to be in the running for the No. 1 overall pick (Trevor Lawrence is from Georgia for what it’s worth).

So, if the Falcons are so bad, then why are they on this list of trap games? Well, the easy answer is that the Falcons have talent. They’re not anywhere close to being the level of terrible that both the Jets and the Giants are. They have a talented quarterback, good wide receivers, a capable running back, and their defense is fine. Again, they should be 3-3 right now and right in the thick of things in the NFC South.

Instead, they won’t have much to play for when the season is winding down, but that doesn’t mean they won’t be capable of coming into Arrowhead Stadium and securing a win. By that point, the Chiefs should have the AFC West locked up and very well could have the No. 1 seed shored up as well. If this is the case, that’s probably the only way Atlanta comes into Arrowhead and wins.

But, at the same time, it’s very possible the Chiefs overlook the Falcons and focus more on their Week 17 match-up against the Chargers, and suffer a shocking loss. Trap games are called trap games for a reason and that’s that teams don’t game plan well enough for them and fall into the so-called trap.

While the Chiefs should destroy Atlanta in Week 16, the Falcons are one of the better 1-5 teams out there and they could make things interesting for playoff teams down the stretch.
