There were only two games played in the AFC West this weekend with the KC Chiefs taking part in one of those games.

With the Chargers and Raiders on a bye, the Broncos and the Kansas City Chiefs were the only two AFC West teams who played games in Week 6. Both teams won their game and interestingly enough, both will now face off in Week 7 in Denver.

The division is most definitely Kansas City’s to lose, as it has been in recent years, but it could get more interesting down the stretch, especially if the Broncos beat KC and/or the Raiders beat the Bucs next weekend. We all know the Chiefs are the most talented team, but even late in the season last year the AFC West crown wasn’t a certainty for this team.

With just two teams to look at this week, let’s dive in and discuss what we learned about the AFC West after six weeks of NFL action.

What did we learn about the Denver Broncos?

The Broncos were lucky to escape Foxboro with a win this past weekend, winning 18-12 and their passing offense not looking great in the process. The Broncos were happy to get the win though, as they started the season 0-3 and have now won two straight games. Drew Lock is back too, though he did not play well on Sunday at all, completing just 10 passes and throwing two really bad interceptions.

The run game looked good, especially with Melvin Gordon out. Phillip Lindsay looked good in his return, carrying the ball 22 times for 101 yards. Even though Lock looked rusty, Tim Patrick stepped up and grabbed four balls for 101 yards with a long of 41. Patrick has been a nice player for Denver this year.

What we learned about the Broncos in their Week 6 victory is that their defense is pretty dang good. They held the Patriots to just 12 points and made Cam Newton look like he was at the end of his career, sacking him four times and forcing him into some poor decisions. Newton did rush for 76 yards against them, but that was because he HAD to run.

The Broncos were lucky to get this win, especially after that terrible pick thrown by Lock, but they got the W and are 2-3 after a rough start to the season. Things are turning around for the Broncos.

Next up: The Broncos welcome in the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs for a late afternoon game.
