The Kansas City Chiefs are 5-1 and just escaped the most difficult part of their schedule.

In their first six games, the Kansas City Chiefs had to face the Texans, Chargers on the road, Ravens on the road, Patriots, Raiders, and Bills on the road. Four of those six teams were playoff teams a season ago and the other two are divisional teams, so anything goes in those games.

Well, the Chiefs did well through their first six games, going 5-1 and if people hadn’t watched the games and had to predict who the loss was to, they’d probably have said either the Ravens or the Bills simply based on how they were playing to start the season. Unfortunately that loss came to the Raiders, but as Kole Berrey pointed out, crazy things happen in division games. The Raiders had lost five straight to KC and were bound to get a win eventually.

When diving deeper into this portion of the schedule, the Chiefs played two of their first three games on the road with that Week 3 game at Baltimore looking like the first one where KC would trip up. Instead, they crushed the Ravens on their home turf. If the Bills game had remained on a Thursday night, it could have been trickier for KC to win it, but if Monday’s result was any indication, it’s that Buffalo wasn’t ready for the spotlight just yet.

The Kansas City Chiefs have some tough games ahead, but the bulk of their tough games are out of the way.

Shortly after the schedule was announced for this season, Cullen Jekel said that he considered Weeks 11-15 to be the most difficult stretch of games for Kansas City. In that stretch, the Chiefs would be coming off their bye week to play the Raiders in Vegas, facing the Bucs in Tampa, hosting the Broncos, squaring off against the Dolphins in Miami, and playing the Saints in New Orleans. That’s four out of five games on the road and against tough teams.

Even still, there’s a reason to believe these games were still tougher than the one later in the season. The Chiefs won’t lose to the Raiders twice and they should be able to handle the Broncos at home. Who knows what kind of team the Dolphins will be in Week 14? This also goes for the Saints, who have been so wishy washy through their first five games.

The Chiefs just mowed down five of their first six opponents and the two “scariest” teams weren’t so scary when they went up against Kansas City. It should hopefully be smooth sailing for the defending Super Bowl champs for the duration of the regular season.
