The Kansas City Chiefs went with a different game plan against the Buffalo Bills and it worked, as they won 26-17 in Buffalo to move to 5-1.

This was a win that the Kansas City Chiefs needed after a rough loss to the Raiders and the fact that they got their fifth win of the season by running the ball down the throats of the then 4-1 Buffalo Bills is even more impressive. The Chiefs hadn’t been running the ball great between Weeks 2 and 5, but they upped the ante this time around.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire had a career game in Buffalo, carrying the rock 26 times for 161 yards while the Chiefs as a whole totaled 245 yards off of 46 carries and one touchdown. It was an offense we hadn’t seen in a long time, but with the murky weather in Buffalo, running the ball was their best bet.

Give props to the offensive line, who despite losing Kelechi Osemele last week and Mitchell Schwartz exiting the game early on, opened up holes for Edwards-Helaire and the other running backs to run through. The Chiefs o-line absolutely dominated in the trenches and Joe Buck and Troy Aikman raved about them throughout. It was a much needed performance for this o-line, who have been shaky at best through the first six weeks.

The Kansas City Chiefs move to 5-1 with the win and their run game is hopefully back on track.

The Bills had absolutely no answer when it came to stopping the run game of the Chiefs. As such, Patrick Mahomes didn’t have to be his regular self and was able to throw just when needed. He finished the afternoon going 21 of 26 for 225 yards and two touchdowns while only getting sacked once. Mahomes also rushed for 36 yards on 10 carries.

Speaking of the run game, Le’Veon Bell joins this team next week, so good luck to Denver and the other defenses who will be tasked with stopping the run game of the Chiefs in the next few weeks. That should be fun to game plan against.

The receivers stepped up with Sammy Watkins unavailable, as Demarcus Robinson led the team in receiving yards with 69 off of five catches. Travis Kelce had both receiving touchdowns while Darrel Williams barreled through the lone rushing touchdown on the evening.

The defense played well after allowing some big runs early on. They did have their fair share of penalties, but settled in after awhile and were able to contain Josh Allen and the Bills. It was a great bounce back game for the Kansas City Chiefs and one that the team desperately needed after that sloppy outing against the Raiders.

Next up, the Chiefs head to Denver for a date with the Broncos. It feels good to get back in the win column!
