What did we learn about the Los Angeles Chargers?

The Chargers can’t get out of their own way. We didn’t necessarily learn that about them this week, but it definitely became more crystal clear. Something else that became clear is that Anthony Lynn is likely on his last leg with the Chargers after a 1-4 start.

It really looked like Justin Herbert was about to secure his first win as an NFL quarterback, especially after the Bolts got off to a 20-3 lead over the New Orleans Saints on Monday night. Instead, the Saints tied it at 20 and we had a game late in the fourth quarter.

After the Chargers took a 27-20 lead with a little over three minutes left, the Saints were able to tie things once again and into overtime we went. The Saints reigned supreme, kicking a field goal to make it 30-27. New Orleans was then able to stop the Chargers on fourth down, ending the game and handing LA another loss.

What we learned about the Chargers is that they’re not going anywhere this season. A 1-4 start is hard to overcome and since they don’t play in the NFC East, a division title isn’t even a possibility at this point. The good news for Charger fans is that Lynn said Herbert would get to start the rest of the way and the kid has been phenomenal so far. The Chargers lucked out with their rookie quarterback.

Next up: The Chargers head into the bye week with just one win to their name, but a lot to think about before returning in Week 7 for a date with the 0-5 Jets.
