Mizzou football knocked off the defending National Champion LSU Tigers on Saturday and Connor Bazelak was a huge reason as to why.

No one gave the Missouri Tigers much of a chance when they played host to the LSU Tigers on Saturday. The game was originally supposed to be held in Baton Rouge, but was moved to Columbia due to Hurricane Delta threatening the area.

Mizzou had home field advantage, but it didn’t seem like much else would be swayed in their favor, but that’s why the games are played, folks. Not only did the Tigers learn they can beat good teams, but they also found their quarterback for the duration of the 2020 season, as Connor Bazelak was brilliant against LSU. He is now undoubtedly the choice at quarterback moving forward.

Bazelak went 29 of 34 for 406 yards and four touchdowns and was the only quarterback for MU this time around. The five incompletions while also not throwing an interception and going toe-to-toe with a team who was college football’s best just nine months prior is proof that Bazelak can be the guy Eli Drinkwitz has dreamed of having in his first year at the helm.

Speaking of which, this was Drinkwitz’s first win as the head coach of Mizzou football and what a win it was! The two teams traded leads, but ultimately, Missouri came out on top 45-41 to hand LSU its second loss of the season. Yes, LSU is a much different team than the one who won it all earlier this year, but many people expected them to crush MU this weekend.

Bazelak’s performance now gives Missouri fans hope for the remainder of the season. The tough stretch of the schedule is out of the way with Vanderbilt up next and that should be an easy win for Bazelak and the Tigers.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens with Shawn Robinson moving forward and if he decides to stay with the program or not. He seemed to be the favorite to land the starting job prior to the season, but Bazelak’s gutless performance on Saturday has made him the obvious choice from here on out.

Missouri won’t be a playoff team or anything like that, but the rest of their schedule doesn’t seem so scary now. Drinkwitz getting his first win of his MU career is also a big weight off the shoulders and it’s very possible the Tigers are 2-2 after their game against Vanderbilt next weekend.
