KC Chiefs: Seven things we learned in Week 5 loss to Raiders
6. Penalties proved costly
The Chiefs had 10 total penalties with two of them wiping out would be touchdowns. There isn’t much else to say here other than that those penalties were very much the difference in this loss. Clean it up, boys.
7. Being the better team isn’t enough
I’ll admit it. Ever since the Chiefs won the Super Bowl, I’ve fallen into the “Well, they’re the better team so they’re going to win” crowd. The Chiefs certainly look like they’re drinking their own Kool Aid too, as they didn’t even look remotely interested in trying in this game. They were unprepared, sloppy, and just not the same team we saw win the Lombardi Trophy eight months ago.
The Chiefs are a better team than the Raiders, but football games aren’t about that. It’s about who the better team is on that particular day and the Raiders were the better team on Sunday. Hopefully this is a valuable lesson for the reigning champs that they can’t just rely on their Super Bowl status to help win them games.

Going 16-0 wasn’t realistic, but it’s still disappointing to see the Kansas City Chiefs lose a winnable game and to lose it in this manner. Also, losing to a divisional rival is even more painful, as the Raiders are now just a game behind in the standings AND now have the head-to-head over the Chiefs.
Hopefully when these two teams meet up again in Week 11 we see a different result, but for now, give the Raiders their props. They came into a stadium where they’ve struggled since Andy Reid got to town and they handed it to the Chiefs defense while also slowing down the Chiefs offense. Not many teams have been able to do that.
