Derek Carr has struggled against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium since he entered the league in 2014.

The Kansas City Chiefs remain at Arrowhead Stadium for the second straight week and will welcome in the Las Vegas Raiders for a Week 5 match-up. Of course, one of the biggest storylines that will be discussed this week is just how poorly Derek Carr has played at Arrowhead Stadium, as the Raiders quarterback has failed to win a game there.

Not only is Carr winless at Arrowhead, but he hasn’t looked good in any of his six starts there. The most he’s passed for is 222 yards and he’s failed to throw more than one touchdown in any of those starts as well. He’s also thrown at least one interception in four of those six games and has thrown two interceptions in each of his last three outings in Kansas City.

Simply put, Carr has struggled to do much of anything whenever he faces the Kansas City Chiefs in their home stadium. Something worth noting though is that all six times Carr has played at Arrowhead, it’s been either December or January. This is the earliest he and the Raiders will have played in Kansas City, so if he plays better this time around, we can point to maybe the warmer weather being a factor in his performance.

The crowd will also be reduced due to COVID-19 and while the Chiefs are one of the few teams to have fans in the stands this season, it’s a significantly less amount than what Arrowhead is used to seating. Less crowd noise might help Carr play better.

While the weather and crowd noise could have something to do with it, more than likely it’s just that Carr and the Raiders have been the lesser team in all six of their trips to Arrowhead. The Raiders are a tough team to peg this year, as they looked pretty good in their first two wins, especially on offense, but defensively it’s been a different story.

This game really is a must win for the Raiders if they want any chance of beating the Chiefs in the division this year (which even with a win, still seems unlikely). Carr has been serviceable this year, throwing for 1,095 yards and eight touchdowns while not tossing an interception yet. He might have thrown a pick yet, but he’s fumbled the football five times and has lost four of those fumbles. Expect the Chiefs to take advantage of Carr’s fumbling issues this weekend.

At some point, Derek Carr is going to win a game at Arrowhead Stadium. Will it be this weekend? We’ll just have to wait and see.
