4. Chiefs are first team EVER to go 4-0 in four straight seasons

Jim Nantz and Tony Romo brought this stat up on the broadcast and it’s fascinating to me. If you had told me a few years ago that the Kansas City Chiefs would be the first team to go 4-0 in four consecutive seasons, I’d have probably laughed in your face, but here we are.

Alex Smith was the quarterback in 2017 when this streak first got going, but that was the year Mahomes was drafted and many speculated at the time about how that lit a fire under Smith’s butt because he started that season absolutely red hot. In 2018, Mahomes took the league by storm and led them to a 5-0 start and then they went 4-0 the next year before dropping two straight games.

It seemed tough to start with a 4-0 record this year due to that Week 3 match-up against the Ravens, but again, here we are. The Chiefs are very much a strong team to start the year, but as we saw last year, they’re also very good in the final game of the season too.

This was a bit of a sloppy game for Kansas City, but the defense shined bright and did everything that was asked of them when the offense needed some time to get going. This is a sign of a good team who is going places and it’s exciting to see that this team might be even better than they were this time last year.

Even more importantly, they now know they can make it all the way and win on the biggest stage. 4-0 feels great, but there’s still a lot of work to be done here for the defending Super Bowl champions.
