Fantasy Football 2020: Thursday Night Football Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em Week 4
By Kole Berrey
If You Absolutely Have To…
Normally, when I make this post I do a Start and a Sit of the Week, as well as highlight some other player who could have good weeks and some to avoid based on matchup. I am not doing that this time, because absolutely you should avoid this game and try to pick up players from different offenses. So instead, I am going to rank the fantasy relevant players from best to worst if I absolutely had to start someone.
- Melvin Gordon should have guaranteed volume and may be the only player to leave this game with a touchdown.
- Noah Fant has turned into quite the player, and is one of the bright spots on this team. Quarterback play will limit his upside, but someone has to catch the ball in this match-up.
- Frank Gore: Do you need eight points? Cool, start Frank Gore and hope he trips into the end zone. He may even get you 10!
- Jamison Crowder is actually a pretty safe option usually in PPR leagues. He may or may not play in this one, and is the safest option at wide receiver on both sides if he does suit up.
- Brandon McManus: If your league is still one with kickers, this game could produce A LOT of field goals, so McManus might not be a bad option for your squad.
- Braxton Berrios: If Jamison Crowder doesn’t play, Berrios may be the only pass catcher for the Jets to do any sort of damage….
- Chris Hogan: …… Or Berrios gets nothing and Chris Hogan catches seven passes for 41 yards and you scrape by in a PPR league.
- Chris Herndon: Death, taxes, and Chris Herndon disappointing in what is supposed to be a breakout year.
- Joe Namath
- Mark Sanchez
- Post retirement Brett Favre
- Chad Pennington
- Flash Gordon
- Sam Darnold: Listen, I still believe in Darnold’s talent. His weapons, however, are horrendous. There are no bright spots outside of rookie Mekhi Becton on the offensive line. Adam Gase has proved all of his players have success AFTER they get away from his basic offense. The Jets defense will do no favors for the Jets offense and will make sure Darnold has to play from behind and force passes that no one outside of Patrick Mahomes would even attempt. This will lead to hero ball which in turn leads to turnovers. (Stay tuned. Sam Darnold is now almost guaranteed to have the best fantasy day of his career now that I have gone so hard in on why you should avoid him. That is just how fantasy works.)
This game probably looked intriguing on paper back in April because it was going to be Drew Lock vs Sam Darnold, but now it’s two 0-3 teams and the quarterback match-up is Darnold vs Brett Rypien. Not exactly a marquee match-up, but let’s be thankful there’s football on this fall.
Good luck in fantasy football this week!
