Kansas City Chiefs: 10 likes and 10 dislikes from win vs Ravens in week 3
By Cullen Jekel
6. Butkerism
Harrison Butker, who’d been pretty stellar this season, struggled on Monday night, leaving four points on the field with a missed extra point after the Chiefs’ first touchdown and then later, a missed field goal at the end of the first half that would’ve extended the team’s lead to 30-10.
And his kicks that made it through the uprights didn’t look so pretty. Plus he had a couple of kick-offs that were short, including the one Duvernay returned for a touchdown. That kick made it to only the seven. Was that by design?
Let’s see what he can do against the Patriots before really worrying.
7. Appendix
Starting right guard Andrew Wylie missed the game due to possible appendicitis. Does one need an appendix? I’m a doctor in name only so this is a legit question, however ignorant it may be.
8. 7.5
That’s how many yards per rush the Ravens gained. On the whole, the team ran it 21 times for 158 yards. But, like calories when you’re inebriated, those were, in the end, empty yards.
9. Upon Reflection, a Question
Sort of touched on this before now, but what happened last week against the Chargers? Do the Chargers just play the Chiefs that much better than any other opponent? Do the Chiefs play down to the Chargers’ level? Did the Chiefs just not want to play last weekend after crushing the Texans to start the season after winning last year’s Super Bowl?
The win over Baltimore had me feeling good as it was great to see the offense unleash for 34 points (with points left on the board), but it’s got me wondering a question with which I’m not that comfortable:
Who is this team?
10. Idle Hands
Now what?
The Chiefs just took down the toughest team on their schedule, and they took them down handily. There are some quality opponents on the remaining schedule, but in every game, as long as No. 15 is healthy and active, the Chiefs will be favored in every single one of these matchups.
Is complacency going to kick in? Will the Chiefs lose a game or two they shouldn’t lose and thus fall out of the race for the AFC’s No. 1 seed? I have no doubt this team will get up for opponents like the Patriots, Bills, Saints, and Buccaneers, as well as fellow AFC West teams, by my God, think about the ensuing panic if the Chiefs pulled a Chefs and lost to the Panthers, Dolphins or Falcons. (They will defeat the Jets by 1,000 points.)
Chiefs players took to Twitter last night to essentially talk some smack after national pundits picked the Ravens to win. A lot of fans (including yours truly) picked the Chiefs to suffer their first loss of the year.
I absolutely love it. I love that these guys took that perceived “disrespect” and turned it into motivation against a most daunting opponent.
But what will drive them for the rest of the season?
