Another week of NFL games are in the books and the AFC West is led by 2 teams at the moment with the KC Chiefs being one of those 2 teams. How did the division do this weekend?

It’s always tough to really gauge who is good and who is bad early on in the season because we have just 2 games to base these teams off of so far. The Kansas City Chiefs didn’t look so hot in their overtime win, but they’re 2-0 and sit atop the division with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Let’s take a look at what we learned about all 4 AFC West teams after week 2. We’ll go in order from when the games were played, meaning that the Denver Broncos are up first!

What did we learn about the Denver Broncos?

Not going to lie, I was really excited about this game because I wanted to see how this supposedly new look offense in Denver was going to fare against the ferocious Steelers defense, which is arguably the best in the league this year.

At first, it wasn’t going so hot for the Broncos and things took a major turn for the worse when Drew Lock went down early in the game after having completed just 1 pass for 20 yards. Lock injured his shoulder and will miss 3-5 weeks.

So, in came Jeff Driskel, who looked fine, but the Steelers sacked him 6 times. Driskel did keep the Broncos afloat, but they came up short 26-21. The run game was solid with Melvin Gordon tallying 70 yards on the ground, but leading receiver Courtland Sutton re-injured himself and will now miss the entire season as a result.

Denver was one of the many teams who suffered injuries this season and theirs were major players missing time. The Broncos now drop to 0-2 for the second straight season.

The main thing we learned about the Broncos is that they’re really hurt by injuries right now. Lock is going to miss a month, Sutton is done for the year, and Von Miller is out for the year, among others of course. Broncos fans were so down that the talk on social media had gone from “Lock’s the next John Elway!” to “Can we actually land Trevor Lawrence?” in a span of 2 weeks. Eek.

It won’t get any easier for Denver this week, as they’ll host the new-look Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who also received a lot of offseason hype this season. Kickoff is at 3:25 Arrowhead time in the Broncos/Bucs battle.
