2. L’Jarius Sneed

Who would have thought a fourth round rookie cornerback would be the biggest star on defense just 2 games into the season? That’s what we’re looking at with L’Jarius Sneed, who has been fantastic in his 2 starts as a rookie.

Sneed hasn’t been put in an easy situation either, being forced to play in place of suspended Bashaud Breeland in game 1 and doing so masterfully. This week, not only did he have to start again, but he was joined by Rashad Fenton starting due to Charvarius Ward‘s injury, but that didn’t stop him from having a great game.

Sneed’s interception in the third quarter turned things around, as the Chiefs then marched down the field and Mahomes connected with Hill on that 54-yard bomb. The rookie has 2 interceptions in 2 games and is looking like a fantastic value pick for a fourth rounder.

1. Harrison Butker

Harrison Butker proved why he’s the best kicker in the league on Sunday (or maybe second best behind the kicker he’ll be squaring off with next week) by knocking through 2 field goals from 58 yards out. Fifty-eight yards! And he did it twice!

Not only that, but Butker had to kick the game winner 3 times before it actually counted and he knocked all 3 of them through the uprights and the Chiefs moved to 2-0 as a result. Who would have thought when the Chiefs claimed Butker off the Panthers’ practice squad in 2017 that he’d turn out to be THIS good? I sure didn’t.

Butker will join a list of Chiefs kicking legends when it’s all said and done. He’s been awesome.

These 5 players stepped up when the Chiefs needed a play and came through in the clutch.

  • Mathieu is always doing just that, but his pass breakup in the end zone prevented the Chargers from increasing their lead when KC was still trying to piece things together.
  • Kelce and Hill both had over 90 yards receiving and each guy had a trip into the end zone, which was needed on a day when the offense wasn’t having much success.
  • Sneed has been a wonderful surprise, getting thrown into the deep end from the jump, but showing why the Chiefs were confident in throwing him to the wolves right away.
  • Butker is simply tremendous, but we knew that by now. Two 58-yard field goals has to be an NFL record.

Who will make this list next week when the Chiefs take on the 2-0 Baltimore Ravens?
