2. Patrick Mahomes’ history vs the Chargers

I wrote an article about how Patrick Mahomes has had some of his worst games against the Los Angeles Chargers. He has yet to throw for 300 yards against them and last year really struggled, not even surpassing the 200 yard mark in either of his 2 games versus LA.

While it’s a new year, the Chargers defense has only improved with the addition of Kenneth Murray while also still carrying Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram on the roster. Los Angeles has had Mahomes’ number despite him going 3-1 against them, but one could certainly argue that he’s not the reason for KC winning either of those games last year.

Instead, Philip Rivers threw multiple picks, setting the offense up for more opportunities. Mahomes can’t keep relying on his defense for opportunities against the Chargers, but fortunately the offense now has a rushing attack that he can turn to if he needs to.

Speaking of which…

3. Chargers defense is vulnerable

While the LA defense is pretty good, they were still ran on against the Bengals in week 1, surrendering 122 yards on the ground. One of those was a long touchdown run by rookie quarterback Joe Burrow in his first ever NFL game.

The Chiefs have a run game to brag about now and if Joe Mixon and Joe Burrow can run on the Chargers D, just imagine what Clyde Edwards-Helaire will be able to accomplish against this group. It very well could be another 100+ yard rushing game for the first round rookie.
