1. Hand o’ Ward

Starting cornerback Charvarius Ward fractured his hand during the game. That’s very unfortunate for not only him but also the team. The Chiefs played well without him, but hopefully it’s a quick recovery for the youngster.

2. Zero Catches

It wasn’t a perfect debut for Edwards-Helaire. He had zero receptions on two targets. He’ll get more involved in the passing game as the season goes, I’m sure, but I was surprised to see this goose egg on his stat line. Of course, it may have just been the Chiefs wanting to establish a running game before getting him involved in the passing game. Time will tell.

Time will also tell why Mecole Hardman hardly played in Week 1. He finished the game with one reception (on one target) for six yards. Again, this may have had more to do with the Chiefs focusing on the run game, but it was a little startling to see last year’s second-round pick have such a quiet evening.

Thankfully, neither of these hurt the Chiefs too much, though the first one led to…

5. The Killed Drive

After Robinson’s touchdown was overturned, the Chiefs’ first offensive drive stalled pretty badly. On the very next play, Mahomes was sacked for the first and only time of the game, and on the next play, he was pressured and couldn’t find anyone open. The Chiefs ended up punting, and the Texans scored on a drive that a crazy person might describe as… (See number 6)
