The Kansas City Chiefs kick off their 2020 season on Thursday night against the Texans. Which players should Chiefs Kingdom be keeping an eye on?

Well, the 2020 NFL season is kicking off Thursday night and the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs (I’ll never get tired of saying that) are the ones who get to jumpstart the season, as it’s typically tradition for the defending Super Bowl champions to host the first game of the new season.

It’ll be the Chiefs vs Texans on Thursday at Arrowhead Stadium in front of a limited crowd, but hey – Football didn’t seem like a sure thing just a few months ago and could still be stripped away from us at any moment, so let’s count ourselves lucky that we’ll have Chiefs football in a matter of days.

Although most of the Super Bowl roster returned for the 2020 season, there are some newcomers who will play a key role for this team in their journey to running it back. Who should Chiefs Kingdom be making it a point to watch for when the Texans come to town?

4. Tershawn Wharton

If you had told me before this summer that a defensive tackle from Missouri S&T was going to make the Kansas City Chiefs’ 53-man roster, I’d probably have laughed in your face, but Tershawn Wharton did just that.

Once a long shot to make the roster, Wharton impressed mightily in training camp and earned his spot on the final roster. Yes, a lot of Wharton landing on the roster did have to do with Mike Pennel‘s two-game suspension, but hey – The guy deserves his moment.

Wharton will likely be thrown into the deep end of the pool right from the jump, as the Chiefs are going to need him to fill the gaps while Pennel is out. Keep an eye on the kid from Missouri S&T to see how he fares in his first ever glimpse of NFL action.
