Week 7 – Kansas City Chiefs at Denver Broncos (Cullen)

Why all the hype surrounding the Broncos? I’m asking for a friend.

Okay, I’m not: I’m asking for myself. I don’t get it.

The Broncos are hedging the early part of their season on the defense being able to carry the offense as it gets its feet wet under new offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur. Quarterback Drew Lock is a starter in the NFL for the first time.

Newly drafted offensive skill players, like first-round pick Jerry Jeudy, second-round pick KJ Hamler, and fourth-round pick Albert Okwuegbunam will all need plenty of time in order to acclimate to the NFL before they can make an impact.

So the plan is for the defense to slow down Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce and the Legion of Zoom enough for that group to keep up? Alright. It’s going to be a long first-half of the season for the Broncos, then.

Prediction: Denver’s defense isn’t slouchy, but it won’t be enough to slow down the Chiefs, who win this road contest. The question is, by how much? Let’s go with 30-10, Kansas City.

Player to Pop: This seems like a game where Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce will have to fight hard for their yards, but in the process, really open things up for another player. Look for Mecole Hardman to torch the Broncos secondary with at least six catches and two going for touchdowns.

RECORD: 5-2
