Week 4 – Kansas City Chiefs vs New England Patriots (Cullen)

Though Bill Belichick remains on the sidelines for the New England Patriots, this is a very different looking team than when the Chiefs faced them last season. Tom Brady left in free agency for Tampa Bay while a league-leading eight–eight!–players opted out over worries about Covid-19. Those players include several starters such as offensive tackle Marcus Cannon,  linebacker Donta Hightower and safety Patrick Chung.

To replace Brady, the Patriots signed Cam Newton, who was released by the Panthers some time ago and then wallowed in free agency with no takers. Unsurprisingly, he’ll be the starter for the Patriots over Jarrett Stidham. But Newton won’t have much of a supporting cast unless the Patriots bring in some other weapons. As it stands, he’ll be throwing to guys like Julian Edelman, N’Keal Harry, and Mohamed Sanu.

Despite all of the changes, the Patriots will be a tough team to beat, and may end up making the playoffs once more. But this Week 4 game is one the Chiefs should win, and will.

Prediction: The Chiefs take this first matchup against a Brady-less Patriots team with ease, 34-20.

Player to Pop: Charvarius Ward shows why he’s the team’s No. 1 cornerback, helping limit the effectiveness of New England’s passing attack, even picking off Newton on at least one occasion.

RECORD: 3-1
