Josh Rosen would make sense as backup for KC Chiefs

Josh Rosen is a free agent once again, and the KC Chiefs should strongly consider giving him a look.

It was only two years ago when Josh Rosen was a surefire first round pick heading into the NFL Draft. He wound up going tenth overall, as the Arizona Cardinals traded up to get him.

After just one year quarterbacking their offense, the Cardinals had seen enough and moved on from Rosen so that they could draft Kyler Murray first overall (a decision that appears to be a smart one, as Murray looked great as a rookie). As a result, Rosen was flipped to Miami in exchange for draft picks and things didn’t work out there either.

With Rosen being 0-2 and now looking to hook on with his third NFL team in as many seasons, it’s obvious that he won’t be a starter anywhere, instead having to “settle” on a backup position somewhere. That somewhere should be with the Kansas City Chiefs.

The KC Chiefs could use a long-term backup quarterback and Josh Rosen could be that guy.

The Chiefs have their starting quarterback for the next ten years, so Rosen wouldn’t have any pressure riding on him whatsoever by coming to Kansas City. Instead, he could come into a Super Bowl winning locker room and learn from the best head coach in the league in Andy Reid and also sit behind the best quarterback in the league in Patrick Mahomes.

Even if Rosen didn’t stick around as the long-term backup signal caller, Reid has shown he can turn mediocre quarterbacks into stars and could potentially get something out of Rosen if a team did decide he was worth trading for down the road.

Maybe Mahomes gets injured and misses some time or maybe during a blowout game, Rosen goes out there and balls out and then teams would have a chance to be wowed by the progress Rosen has made.

Josh Rosen hasn’t panned out so far in the NFL, but the Cardinals didn’t offer him any protection up front, resulting in him getting the crap beat out of him each week. The Dolphins didn’t surround him with any talent at all, which is why he struggled to do much of anything there.

The Kansas City Chiefs would be an entirely different environment for Rosen and it’d give him a chance to work with a head coach who could really transform his style of play. Bringing Josh Rosen in would be a really good idea for the Chiefs and hopefully it’s something they consider and follow through with.
