1. Charvarius Ward, CB

Charvarius Ward is one of the most criminally underrated players in the entire league. He is also one of Brett Veach’s most underrated moves as a GM as well.

Ward is a third-year corner who went undrafted out of Middle Tennessee St. He landed with the Cowboys, but Veach was able to swindle him away from Dallas using offensive lineman Parker Ehinger as leverage. Ehinger never played a snap for the Cowboys while Ward is a starter for the Super Bowl champion Chiefs.

Ward didn’t get a lot of playing time until the end of the season his rookie year, but last year was a big-time breakout season for Ward. He finished off 2019 with two interceptions and 10 pass breakups. Now, neither of those stats is anything to gawk at, but this is where it really gets impressive.

Ward was first in the NFL catch percentage against among cornerbacks with 1,000+ snaps (only one player, Tre Herndon, finished higher overall but with significantly less overall snaps). He also finished first in passer rating against and third in yards allowed and yards allowed per coverage snap. This should firmly place him amongst the top corners in the league, but nobody outside of Kansas City is talking about him.

Ward, coming into his second year as a full-time starter, if he can continue to improve, will undoubtedly have to be in the conversation for one of the league’s top corner spots. If he is able to do this two seasons in a row, there is no way he will be able to be ignored and should immediately rise to superstar status.

Charvarius Ward has said that he is going to prove himself this year as one of the best corners in the league. He really wants to earn his respect this year and a motivated player of his caliber is going to be great.

I know you probably wanted to see some offensive players on this list, but with all the attention on the Chiefs’ offense, it is a lot harder to be underrated than it is on the defensive side of the ball, which is underrated as a whole. These three guys without a doubt have superstar potential though and I can not wait to watch them this season.
