1. Whit Merrifield

Year after year it feels like Whit Merrifield is on the trade block and year after year, he stays in Kansas City with the team who drafted him in the tenth round in 2010. Merrifield is a feel good story and one of the biggest draws teams have with wanting to acquire him is that he’s affordable and versatile.

While the Royals should eventually trade the 31-year-old Merrifield, now isn’t the time. He’s under contract through 2023 and there’s still going to be a good chance to trade him next offseason or even during the course of the 2021 season.

For now, however, the Royals should most definitely hang onto their best bat in the lineup if they want any shot at sneaking into the postseason.

The Kansas City Royals might end up standing pat at the deadline, which in all honesty is probably the right move for this team in such a strange season. Maybe they miss the playoffs and don’t end up acquiring any prospects, but at least we’d know that they gave it their all and went for it.

The Royals likely won’t get much back in return anyway, as teams are in the same boat. They’re not going to give up a king’s ransom this year due to the circumstances this year has brought about.
