Fantasy Football: Top 15 quarterbacks to target in 2020
By Shade Piper
Fantasy Football Quarterbacks to Target – Number 2: PatrickMahomes
Patrick Mahomes is the best player in football and there’s not really much of a debate to be had about that but, again, sometimes you can be a better real life football player than fantasy football player and that’s the case for Mahomes in these rankings.
Mahomes is always a threat to put up video game numbers, but he doesn’t get as many points with his legs as the player ranked ahead of him and, unfortunately, due to the unequal fantasy point distribution of passing and rushing yards in most leagues, that gives the more mobile guys a distinct advantage. Hence, Mahomes at two and Jackson at one.
Nevertheless, Mahomes is a pretty safe bet to finish near top of the QB ranks with his skill set in an Andy Reid-led offense with weapons like Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins, Travis Kelce, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
Also let’s not forget that in his only fully healthy year as a starter so far he threw for 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns. He’s a beast and has just as good of a shot as anybody to take back that fantasy QB1 crown from Jackson. But for now, due to his insane mobility, Jackson keeps his spot at the top.
Fantasy Football Quarterbacks to Target – Number 1: Lamar Jackson
As much as it hurts to not have the best player in football as fantasy QB1, it’s hard not to give it to Jackson. Last fantasy season Jackson was QB1 by a country mile, mostly because he is basically a top quarterback and running back combined into one player.
The running back half of Jackson makes him a high floor fantasy player. He doesn’t have to throw for 300 yards and three touchdowns to have a great fantasy performance like a lot of the guys on this list.
He averaged 80.4 rush yards per game last season meaning he notches a free eight fantasy points before he even counting a single pass. His 1207 rush yards and 7 rushing touchdowns last year actually would’ve put him in the top 20 of the fantasy running back rankings, which is absolutely ridiculous.
It’s pretty safe to say that as long as Jackson can stay healthy, he’s going to dominate fantasy leagues with his mobility and ever improving arm talent. All the running will likely take its toll eventually and result in some missed games here and there, but if he’s on the field he is worth a round two draft choice easy.
Recap
So that is the top 15 quarterbacks to target this season for your fantasy squads. It was a tough battle at the bottom of this list deciding who would be the last few in and the first few out. Who do you think we missed? Who’s too high and who’s too low?
