Fantasy Football Quarterbacks to Target – Number 10: Matthew Stafford

50. . Quarterback. Detroit Lions. Matthew Stafford. 10. player

Matthew Stafford isn’t the sexiest pick, but he is a very underrated fantasy option at quarterback. He has a history of consistently producing top 10 fantasy seasons and, coming off of a down year in 2018 and then an injury-riddled 2019, he will be slept on in fantasy drafts this year, but could very easily shoot back up into the top 10.

Despite only playing in eight games last season, some good information can still be pulled from his performance. If you look at fantasy points per game, he was actually on pace for a QB4 finish prior to his injury. That’s over an eight game sample size too, so it would be hard to see him falling too far from that if he had played in all 16 games.

Stafford also has quite a few weapons in his tool belt. Kenny Golladay has a chance to finish as the top wide receiver in fantasy this season, Marvin Jones is a touchdown magnet, and he has a 2019 first-round tight end just waiting to have his coming out party.

Stafford has a very high ceiling and if he can stay healthy he could make this ranking look a little low.

Fantasy Football Quarterbacks to Target – Number 9: Tom Brady

player. 48. . Quarterback. Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tom Brady. 9

Does Tom Brady have a lot of stand alone value in fantasy anymore? No.

Does the quarterback of an offense trotting out Chris Godwin, Mike Evans, Rob Gronkowski, Cameron Brate, O.J. Howard, and company have value? You better believe it.

Brady’s arm talent isn’t what it used to be, but mentally he’s as good as ever and with the weapons he has that should be enough to produce a solid fantasy season. It still feels weird to say “Tom Brady of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers,” but this move seems like a good one for Brady.

For fantasy purposes, this is an extremely good move for Brady. He goes from being a fringe-irrelevant fantasy player to a top 10 option at quarterback. One thing that should be noted is that you shouldn’t expect Jameis Winston fantasy numbers because Brady just isn’t going to fling it out there as much as Winston, but he still obviously has a lot of fantasy potential this year.

Another thing to be aware of is (remember what we discussed with Mayfield?) WEAPONS AREN’T EVERYTHING. Don’t fall in love with the plethora of weapons and overpay for Brady. It is fairly safe to say though that he will finish somewhere between Winston’s QB3 and his own QB12 finish from last season.
