Brady Singer made his second start for the Kansas City Royals and put on another solid performance on the mound. What else did we learn about the boys in blue in game seven?

The Kansas City Royals had a chance to tie up their second series of the season and they’d have to rely on 2018 first round pick Brady Singer in order to do so.

Fortunately, Singer came through with another impressive performance. He threw five innings and allowed five hits and two runs while striking out three. Both hits came via home run, but Singer was clutch in spite of allowing those homers. His ERA now sits at 3.60 after two starts and ten innings pitched.

Singer has now looked good in both of his starts and fellow 2018 draftee Kris Bubic will get the start on Friday, making his Major League debut. The party is getting started for the Royals prospects and fans can’t wait!

Brady Singer was clutch, but the offense was finally able to do some damage against the Tigers bullpen.

The Tigers bullpen had been cruising against the Royals, but luckily things changed on Thursday. It was a 2-2 ball game heading into the seventh inning, but Whit Merrifield crossed the plate on a Salvador Perez ground ball, giving KC a 3-2 lead.

The Royals weren’t done scoring, as they added two more runs in the eighth inning thanks to Bubba Starling‘s double that scored both Alex Gordon and Adalberto Mondesi. Those two runs proved pivotal, as the Tigers tied it up the very next inning off of a Miguel Cabrera home run (his second of the night).

Seeing the offense not completely vanish in the later innings was a welcomed sight after they had struggled in that department throughout the season. After two slow starts to the year, Mondesi and Gordon had their best games of the year, going 3-for-4 with Gordon scoring two runs and Mondesi getting one run. Jorge Soler also had a good game, going 3-for-5 and now hitting .269 on the year.

With the two run advantage, the Royals were able to send Trevor Rosenthal out to the mound in the ninth to go for his first save since August 2017. Rosenthal pitched a scoreless ninth and the Royals won their third game of the season to move to 3-4 on the year.

Other relievers who appeared out of the bullpen were Greg Holland, Jake Newberry, and Ian Kennedy. Newberry only pitched 0.2 innings while Kennedy pitched 1.1 and allowed the second Cabrera home run late in the game. His ERA is at 4.15 while the other relievers mentioned still have an ERA of 0.00. The bullpen has been tremendous thus far.

It’s hard not to be optimistic about Brady Singer after his two starts.

Yes, it’s only two starts for the former first rounder, but he’s doing exactly what the Royals expected him to do. He’s given up two runs in each outing, but this time the two runs came via home runs and there wasn’t necessarily a rough inning like there was last weekend in Cleveland.

The Royals evened the series with Detroit at 2-2 and are still looking for their first series win of the 2020 season. They finally head home to Kansas City where they’ll take on the White Sox in the first series at Kauffman Stadium this year.

It’ll be Kris Bubic versus Dallas Keuchel at the K on Friday night! Can’t wait!

Seven games down, 53 to go!
