KC Chiefs: Scariest player from every 2020 opponent
By Chris Clark
Scariest player from the Denver Broncos – Bradley Chubb
The Denver Broncos have made some decent offseason moves to try and compete in the AFC West. Unfortunately for them, it’s likely not enough to move the needle against the defender Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.
One player that’s worth keeping a watchful eye on, though, is Bradley Chubb. The 2018 fifth overall pick enters year three in the league and is set to return from injury.
After missing most of the 2019 season with a knee injury, Chubb has to be licking his chops and ready to take down a few quarterbacks. The 6’4″, 275-pound edge defender has the physical tools to wreck an offense.
With star pash rusher Von Miller in the latter part of his career, it’s likely that he’ll be looking to pass the torch to his young protégé. This could be the year that Chiefs fans become very mindful of this talented defender.
Scariest player from the Los Angeles Chargers – Derwin James
The Los Angeles Chargers got a steal in the 2018 draft, picking safety Derwin James with the 17th overall pick. James was a top-ten talent that just happened to fall into the Chargers’ hands.
Similar to Chubb, James did well in his rookie year, but was hit with the injury bug in year two. Missing much of 2019, James didn’t really get to show what he could do in his second season.
The 6’2″, 215-pound safety knows how to grab interceptions, but can also lay a pretty good hit as needed. Receivers crossing the middle of the field certainly keep in mind that James roams that part of the field.
As he sets his eyes on a full season, there’s no question that the stud safety is ready to make his presence known even more. James is definitely a defender that the Chiefs offense will consider when they hit the field.
Scariest player from the Las Vegas Raiders – Maxx Crosby
Ten sacks from a rookie is a big deal. It’s an even bigger deal when that rookie is a fourth-round draft pick.
The Las Vegas Raiders seemed to have struck gold with a talented young defensive end in Maxx Crosby. For Raiders fans, Crosby became a very nice surprise through the 2019 season.
As he enters year two, Crosby has his eyes set on the prize of sacking Patrick Mahomes. After not sacking him in the two games against Kansas City last season, Crosby now has a little extra motivation.
Like these other defenders in the AFC West, Kansas City will have to face him twice and that causes double concern for keeping Mahomes and his high-powered offense in position to overcome them.
