Kansas City Chiefs and Chris Jones agree to contract extension
It’s looking like Chris Jones is here to stay, as he and the Kansas City Chiefs have agreed on a contract extension.
Ian Rapoport tweeted out the news on Tuesday afternoon and this has been a long-time coming for Chris Jones and the Kansas City Chiefs.
According to Rapoport’s initial tweet, it was a big-money extension and at that time, nothing had been finalized yet. That changed within 20 minutes though (see further below).
This is huge for both sides, as it allows Jones to get the kind of money he wants and the Chiefs get to keep one of their best defensive players.
Chiefs fans have been waiting for this deal to get done. Jones tweeting that he wouldn’t play if he didn’t get a new deal obviously pushed Brett Veach and the Chiefs into high-gear and now it’s looking like both sides will be happy moving forward.
Locking up Jones gives Kansas City a solid defensive front, as now Jones will be here to stay and they also have Frank Clark on a huge deal. Throw in former third round pick Derrick Nnadi and it’s a really solid defensive line in Kansas City.

There had been some rumblings that this deal wouldn’t get done, but after seeing the Chiefs take care of Patrick Mahomes, it felt like it was only a matter of time before Jones got the kind of money he was seeking too.
Kansas City can’t keep everyone, but they’re showing that they’re going to do everything they can to keep top talent and stay in the power position they’re in now. That will be appealing for the young players who join this team, as they’ll see that if they can be big time contributors, they’ll get a chance to make a nice chunk of change with the Chiefs.
The deal is worth $85 million and is over the course of four years with $60 million guaranteed. Does this seem fair to you, Chiefs fans? Are you happy to see Jones remaining in Kansas City?
