Ben Hernandez, RHP (18-years-old)

Ben Hernandez is a 6’2”, 205 pound right-handed pitcher selected 41st overall out of De La Salle Institute (Chicago) program and had the highest rated change-up in the high school class.

His arsenal features the borderline plus-plus change-up, an above-average fastball, slightly above-average curveball, and slightly above average control. He has low effort mechanics and room to add more strength to his frame.

  • Best Outcome: Hernandez has a high ceiling with his above average fastball and plus-plus change-up. He can exceed his projection and be a number three type starter (3.30 FIP). WAR = 3.5 – 4.9 range.
  • Likely Outcome: Hernandez scouting grades conservatively project him to be number four type starter (4.00 FIP). WAR = 1.8 – 2.5 range.

Tyler Gentry, Outfielder (21-years-old)

Tyler Gentry is a 6’2”, 210 pound outfielder selected 76th overall out of the University of Alabama.

Gentry led the University of Alabama in most offensive categories in 2019 and 2020 and is a borderline plus defender in the corner outfield with an above-average arm and fielding. He is an above-average baserunner with slightly above-average contact and power at the plate. All of his tools rate at least average.

  • Best Outcome: Gentry is a high floor-type prospect with four above-average tools with a chance for five above-average tools if he develops better patience at the plate. If he becomes more disciplined at the plate, Gentry will could hit .270 with 23 – 27 home runs. He’s a good baserunner and could steal 10+ bases per year. His defense is borderline plus and he should be an asset in the spacious outfield in Kauffman Stadium. WAR = 2.5 – 3.3 range.
  • Likely Outcome: Average big league regular, capable of producing a .260 batting average with 19-22 homeruns per year. WAR = 1.6 – 2.4 range.
