Which members of the Kansas City Royals could make their Major League Baseball debut in the shortened 2020 season?

Even in a shortened MLB season, the Kansas City Royals will still likely see a few of their prospects make their debuts this year. With camp starting on Friday and the season not beginning until the end of the month, there’s time for some Royals prospects on the 60-man roster to make some noise.

The season might not be as long as a normal MLB season, but injuries are still likely going to occur and there’s still a high probability of players testing positive for COVID-19 and having to miss at least two weeks of action as a result.

That could open the door for these nine  Royals prospects to find their way onto the diamond this year.

Kansas City Royals who could make debuts – Number 9: Kris Bubic

In the same way that the first round picks from 2004-2008 were pegged as the franchise changing players, that’s what the pitchers taken in the 2018 draft are going to be for the next wave of Royals talent.

Kris Bubic was the fourth pitcher taken by the Royals in that draft after having an impressive career at Stanford. He made waves in 2019 when he pitched on the American League team in the Future’s Game, throwing a scoreless inning. He threw 101.2 innings for Wilmington in 2019 while posting an ERA of 2.30.

Even with the hype surrounding Bubic, him getting a call-up this year isn’t guaranteed and will probably only happen if there’s a slew of injuries. That being said, there is still a chance Bubic could be a bullpen arm for the team at some point in 2020.
