KC Chiefs: Geoff Schwartz calls Cowherd out for no Patrick Mahomes on list
Former KC Chiefs offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz let Colin Cowherd hear how dumb his list of top five arm talent in the NFL truly was.
Last week, Colin Cowherd stirred up controversy in Kansas City when he had a list of who he felt had the best arm talent in the NFL. That’s all fine and good, but the list completely ignored Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, which right there makes it a stupid list.
Geoff Schwartz – who spent the 2013 season starting at right guard for the Chiefs – went on Cowherd’s show earlier this week and let Cowherd hear just how silly his rankings were.
Cowherd, of course, claimed that the list was supposed to be the “most catchable balls” not arm talent. Sure, Cowherd… Whatever you say. *Eye roll* In case you missed the commotion, here’s the graphic depicting who Cowherd believes have the best arm talent in the NFL.
The graphic is certainly good for a laugh. How Mahomes isn’t anywhere near this list is beyond me. I guess Cowherd didn’t watch any Chiefs games the past two years or maybe because the Chiefs aren’t the Cowboys, Tom Brady, or LeBron James, he has no interest in giving them their due diligence.
Anyway, Schwartz put Cowherd in his place about his stupid list, having this to say (quote courtesy of John Dixon of Arrowhead Pride),
"“Any list of a positive quarterback traits that doesn’t include Patrick Mahomes is not accurate,” laughed Schwartz. “He gives everything. I mean, catchable balls? He’s on the back of his foot, throwing the ball to Tyreek Hill — obviously the throw here to Sammy Watkins. There was a throw against Baltimore this year where he’s backing up and hits a guy.”"
I’m glad Schwartz took the time to really twist the knife here because the list was clearly just a way to aggravate Chiefs fans. No one in their right mind believes that Brady or Drew Brees have a better arm than Mahomes. They’re both in their 40s and are accomplished quarterbacks, but they aren’t slinging the ball like Mahomes is.
At the end of the day, it’s just a list and it’s a known fact that Cowherd likes to stir the pot. Even if he did intend for that segment to be surrounding the most catchable balls, Mahomes still should have been in that category because of how explosive the Chiefs’ offense has been with him at the helm.
Geoff Schwartz – who is the brother of Chiefs right tackle Mitchell Schwartz – has always been good at defending the Chiefs and it was nice to see him really stick it to Cowherd in this segment.
