Kansas City Chiefs who could revive career – Number 1: Sammy Watkins

Sammy Watkins has had a very up and down career. The Bills traded a lot of draft capital in order to move up to fourth overall to take him in the 2014 NFL Draft. Watkins then spent the next three years with the Bills, but mostly disappointed.

He was traded to the Rams and didn’t do enough for them to merit giving him another contract. That led to the Chiefs then bringing Watkins in and through his first two seasons, he’s been fine, but nothing special. At least in the postseason, Chiefs fans have gotten to see peak Watkins, but during the regular season, he hasn’t been worth what Kansas City is paying him.

The 2020 season is going to be a huge one for Watkins. He’ll once again be the WR2 for the Chiefs offense and this is the final year of his initial three-year contract. KC made the decision to keep him on the roster and now it’ll be time for Watkins to show up big time.

If he has a good season, he could get another hefty contract this offseason, but if he gets injured or is overall inconsistent like he has been with the Chiefs, Watkins might not get a ton of interest on the free agent market. Fortunately he has the best quarterback in the league throwing to him and that will definitely help his cause.
