Chiefs News: Lamar Jackson doesn’t want rivalry with Patrick Mahomes
Chiefs news revolves around how Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson isn’t wanting to have a rivalry with KC Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
After setting the NFL on fire in 2018 and winning the league MVP as a result, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was the player everyone was looking forward to watching on a week-to-week basis. Fast forward to 2019, however, and Lamar Jackson became that player. He did it in a different way (predominantly running the ball), but he was a fun player to watch nonetheless.
It’s only fitting that the two most recent MVP recipients would be looked at as the next great rivalry in the NFL, but Jackson claims he isn’t trying to go along with that notion. He mentioned this on his appearance of The Ringer’s Slow News Day, saying he’s “not trying to have no rivalry” with the Chiefs quarterback.
So far in this “rivalry”, Mahomes leads 2-0, but it’s only fair to point out that both of those games happened in Mahomes’ house at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs and Ravens will play in Baltimore in week three of the 2020 season on Monday Night Football and that’ll definitely be a game for all football fans to circle because it should be a good one.

"Despite being two of the NFL’s best players in the early stages of their careers, Baltimore Ravens star Lamar Jackson doesn’t see himself as being a rival to Patrick Mahomes.Appearing on The Ringer’s Slow News Day, Jackson said he’s “not trying to have no rivalry” with the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback."
It’s only natural that these two would be considered rivals, as their teams are the two best squads in the AFC. Outside of the Chiefs and Ravens, there really aren’t any scary teams in the conference and these two quarterbacks are the best of the young talent there is right now (throw Deshaun Watson in there as well).
The Ravens defense did a nice job slowing Mahomes down in 2018 when these two teams met up, but the Chiefs reigned supreme in that one, winning it in overtime. That was Jackson’s only regular season loss.
Jackson has only lost three total regular season games during his career and two of those came against the Kansas City Chiefs. That has to be infuriating and it’s a bit surprising he doesn’t see Mahomes as more of a rival.
Perhaps this narrative will change and Jackson will start to treat this more as a rivalry, but for now, it appears he’s not ready to put that label on it just yet.
