Most Intriguing KC Chiefs in 2020 – Mecole Hardman

When the Kansas City Chiefs selected Mecole Hardman with the 56th overall pick in the 2019 draft, many fans wondered who he even was. Watching his speedy highlights as a Georgia Bulldog likely kept fans from being too upset with what seemed to be a pick out of left field.

Fortunately, it didn’t take long for that speed to translate to the professional game. The addition of Hardman to the Chiefs’ receiving corps helped the group become known as the Legion of Zoom.

Hardman finished his rookie season with 538 receiving yards and six touchdowns. That’s really saying a lot for any rookie receiver on this team specifically.

Not only is Andy Reid’s offense a bit more complex for receivers to adjust to, but he was also competing for targets alongside guys like Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, and Sammy Watkins. That essentially says that the young pass-catcher is more than just a burner.

It didn’t take long for Chiefs fans to begin keeping an eye on Hardman. His big-play ability came by getting separation and by making defenders look like they were running in slow motion. It also seemed like Hardman came up with just the right play at just the right time – Most notably was his 58-yard kickoff return against the Houston Texans that sparked one of the wildest comebacks in NFL playoff history.

After having such a great rookie season, Hardman becomes one of the most intriguing players on the team in year two. Having a full season in the Chiefs’ offense and getting a taste of how great he really can be will are major assets heading into his sophomore season.

There were even small flashes of his talent being on par with guys like Emmanuel Sanders or Antonio Brown at the peak of their careers. If Chiefs Kingdom was impressed by Mecole Hardman as a rookie, he’ll be even more impressive in 2020.
