There are some players a little further down on the KC Chiefs’ depth chart that could make a bigger name for themselves.

When tasked with making a list of intriguing players for the Kansas City Chiefs headed into the 2020 season, the list could take on a multitude of players.

While the offense will likely return to sonic boom status, the defense in the second year of defensive coordinator is worth keeping an eye on. Even so, there really are a handful of players on both sides of the ball who could keep us glued to the TV on Sundays come the 2020 season.

Let’s take a look at a few that are certainly intriguing.

Most Intriguing KC Chiefs in 2020 – Tanoh Kpassagnon

Tanoh Kpassagnon was an interesting pick for Kansas City in the 2017 draft. At 6’7″ tall and 289 pounds, he’s a mountain of a man who fits right into the defensive end position.

The reason that he was an interesting pick was that the Chiefs implemented at 3-4 defense at that time and Kpass wasn’t a great fit in that scheme. Now, things are a bit different with the arrival of Steve Spagnuolo and his 4-3 defense in 2019.

Through his first two seasons, the former Villanova Wildcat didn’t leave much of a mark. Not only was he at a disadvantage playing behind guys like Justin Houston, Dee Ford, and even Tamba Hali for a year, but he was pretty raw and didn’t fit the mold.

While somewhat flying under the radar, many still expected more out of him as a second-round draft pick. It seems what he needed most was a change in the scheme.

Thankfully, Spagnuolo’s system seemed to give Kpass a chance to showcase more of his talent. Through 16 games, eight of which were starts, he tallied four sacks. That may not seem like much except that that doubled his sack total from his first two years in the league. It’s now looking like that raw talent that Kansas City saw in him is now making him worth that second-round pick.

Kpass is intriguing heading into the 2020 season because he’s entering the final year of his rookie contract and he has a lot to prove. A second straight year in a defense suited for his abilities along with proving himself in a contract year should be a good combination.

He’ll be fighting for snaps amongst a talented defensive end group, but he’ll likely make the most of those snaps just like he did in helping Kansas City get to and win a Super Bowl. Hopefully, 2020 becomes the big breakout season that Chiefs Kingdom knows he’s capable of.
