Royals news surrounds how the Kansas City Royals hold the fourth overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft.

It won’t be an easy decision for the Kansas City Royals when they’re on the clock at pick number four for the first round of the 2020 MLB Draft.

The Royals have mostly been linked to Nick Gonzales, Emerson Hancock, Asa Lacy, and Zac Veen at pick number four. Gonzales is an infielder out of New Mexico State, Hancock a right-handed pitcher out of Georgia, Lacy a left-handed pitcher out of Texas A&M, and Veen an outfielder out of Spruce Creek High School in Florida.

The top two picks seem pretty locked in with Spencer Torkelson going to Detroit and Austin Martin landing with the Orioles at picks one and two respectively. The Marlins then pick before the Royals get a chance and the consensus in recent mock drafts appear to have them linked with Lacy.

That would be a bummer if Lacy went just one pick before Kansas City because he’d be a great addition to this organization and to their pitching staff.

"For rebuilding teams who are also small market organizations (which the Kansas City Royals are), the draft is the best chance a team has at getting to the top and competing."

If the Royals can land Lacy with the fourth overall pick, that’d be ideal or if Martin slips to them, that’d be a great pick as well. Gonzales could make the most sense, however, and he’s certainly been linked to the Royals in several different mock drafts. Gonzales’ bat will be what carries him through the Royals’ farm system and propels him to the big leagues.

Hancock is a talented pitcher and went up against some tough players in the SEC, so that could entice the Royals to take him. Veen’s less expensive price tag could be something that attracts the Royals to him, but Veen worries me a bit due to his age. He reminds me a lot of Bubba Starling and we all know how that turned out.

The newest member of the Kansas City Royals will be announced on Wednesday night and it’s going to be a tough choice for Dayton Moore and the rest of the front office.
