The Kansas City Royals hold the fourth overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft. Who have been some of the best fourth overall picks in MLB history?

The Kansas City Royals landed in the top five as far as draft picks go once again, with their 2020 first rounder coming at fourth overall. The hope is that this pick can become a top prospect and help the Royals get to the next level.

Who are some of the best fourth overall picks in Major League Baseball history? Let’s take a look.

Kansas City Royals: Best Fourth Overall Picks

9. . Catcher. Chicago Cubs. Kyle Schwarber. 11. player

For the first time in a long time, the Kansas City Royals didn’t have a high draft pick in 2014 and weren’t able to take Kyle Schwarber, who was selected by the Chicago Cubs at pick number four. Schwarber appeared (and still does appear) as more of an American League talent because he’s the definition of a designated hitter, but alas, he ended up in the National League.

Schwarber made his Major League debut in 2015 and has mostly been used as an outfielder for the Cubs. Despite being injured throughout nearly all of the 2016 season, Schwarber was able to play in the World Series and helped lead the Cubs to their first World Series title in 104 years.

After five seasons in the big leagues, Schwarber has an average slash line of .235/.339/.490 while belting 110 home runs and 255 RBI. Normally Schwarber would have been someone the Royals would be interested in drafting, but they didn’t have a pick until late in the first round that year due to their success in 2013.

Even still, Kyle Schwarber is one of the best recent fourth overall picks and has the World Series ring to prove it.
