AFFORDABLE FREE AGENTS KC CHIEFS SHOULD SIGN

47. . Wide Receiver. New England Patriots. Antonio Brown. 1. player

This one likely won’t be a popular choice in Chiefs Kingdom. Before you get too upset, let’s just consider the option.

Antonio Brown is one of the most talented wide receivers the National Football League has ever seen. Unfortunately, he’s also one of the most troubled, having many serious allegations leveled against him in recent years. Both on the field and off, he seems to have a knack for making bad headlines.

Seattle Seahawks quarterback, Russell Wilson would reportedly like to have Brown on Seattle’s roster. While any quarterback would like to have Brown’s talent to throw to, most quarterbacks aren’t likely to express their interests publicly in having him on their roster.

The reason that Wilson likes the possibility is that Seattle is a stable organization that would have a better chance of helping Brown get his career, and possibly life, back on track. Similar to Seattle, Kansas City is a stable place where Brown could thrive.

While the last year of Brown’s public life has been hard to watch, it seems like things have simmered down some in recent months. It’s likely that his misbehavior in the last year will result in some sort of suspension. But that may very well benefit the Chiefs and the talented receiver.

The time of that suspension could be used as a litmus test to see how he fits in the locker room, could build chemistry with Mahomes on the practice field, and would keep him out of the spotlight until the season gets rolling.

The Chiefs are fortunate that they don’t need him as their receiving corps is already top-notch. But like any season, injuries do happen and the addition of Brown could add a layer of security for later in the season.

Whether he’d be a cost-effective security blanket is the big question and his contract would have to have plenty of easy exit points if things went south. At nearly 32 years old with a lot of career earnings and no championship ring, could Brown be open to a cheaper deal to get the hardware?

Just imagine if Coach Reid and the staff can keep him under wraps and he has a fresh set of legs for the playoff run. While signing Brown isn’t likely, you have to wonder how much time Veach has spent considering the possibility. Adding that talented of a receiver to an already top-tier offensive attack would simply be unfair. It’d be an unstoppable offense.
