Training camp is almost here and it’s typically the first opportunity for KC Chiefs fans to get a look at the 2020 roster and begin to see how it might shape up as the regular season nears.

Training camp might be up in the air right now due to COVID-19, but we are still going to take a look at potentially exciting position battles for Kansas City Chiefs fans to keep their eye on this offseason. Spoiler alert – the position battles to watch this offseason may not be quite as interesting as last season, but let’s take a look.

KC CHIEFS POSITION BATTLES – NUMBER THREE: PUNTER

I’m sure a more exciting position was probably expected, but instead, we have the punter position to look forward to as one of the biggest position battles to watch. It’s not necessarily the most exciting position to watch I know, but this is the first time since 2004 that the Chiefs will have any kind of true competition at the punter position.

After the heartbreaking release of our longest-tenured Chief Dustin Colquitt, it leaves the spot up for grabs. The two players who will be competing for that spot are second-year UDFA Tyler Newsome, who spent last season on the Chargers’ practice squad, and rookie UDFA Tommy Townsend, who was signed by the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of Florida.

The debate of who has the better hair might be a more interesting battle to watch than the actual on-field competition, but hey we will take what we can get I guess. With Colquitt not handling the punting duties this year, it’s only natural that the battle for who gets to be his successor makes this list.
