Nebraska football hasn’t been the team many were hoping to see when Scott Frost took over in 2018, but there’s hope for them in 2020.

If a college football season does happen in 2020, Nebraska football will have a tough schedule to compete against. Yet, according to Brett McMurphy listed in the tweet below, the Nebraska Cornhuskers are given the sixth best odds to win the Big Ten in 2020.

In Scott Frost‘s two years at the helm, Nebraska has yet to have a winning season and therefore haven’t qualified for a bowl game. They won just four games in 2018 and only five in 2019. The hope is obviously that they can be bowl eligible in 2020, but their schedule is pretty tough.

The Huskers might kick things off with four straight home games to open up the season, but they’re not against tiddlywinks. Their season opener is against Purdue – a team who has had Nebraska’s number over the years.

Their slate of non-conference opponents aren’t against slouches, as they’ll play Central Michigan, South Dakota State, and Cincinnati. Yes, Nebraska gets those teams in Lincoln, but oof that’s a brutal group of non-conference foes. The Huskers will have their work cut out for them.

It’s not surprising to see Nebraska listed with less odds than Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Minnesota, but it is surprising to see them with more than Iowa, who continues to be a steady team. Not to mention they’ve handled the Huskers pretty easily over the past few seasons.

The 2020 season is going to be a big year for Nebraska football and they’re going to have to overcome a tough schedule to get to where they need to be. There were a lot expectations for the Cornhuskers this time last year and they disappointed greatly.

Adrian Martinez was listed as a potential Heisman Trophy candidate heading into 2019 and he was not at his best. The offensive line was a problem, but Martinez definitely regressed after garnering all of that offseason attention.

Nebraska doesn’t have huge odds to win the Big Ten and they haven’t fared great in the conference aside from their first few years in it, but clearly there’s still potential there. This could be a good team and if they figure it out, they’ll be able to turn some heads in 2020 and beyond.

While we’re unsure of if there will be a 2020 college football season, if there is one, hopefully Nebraska football can live up to these odds and surprise some people.
