Chiefs news surrounds the release of the Kansas City Chiefs’ 2020 regular season schedule. What games weren’t included in the primetime slate?

*THIS ARTICLE WAS WRITTEN WITH THE HELP OF A SCREEN READER*

The sports world is still on hold, but it seems to be business as usual for the NFL, who unveiled their schedule for 2020. We all cross our fingers that it will not need any restructuring and that the stadiums will be jammed packed with raucous fans starved for football.

As the defending National Champs, the Kansas City Chiefs have one of the tougher schedules in the league, and a slate loaded with what promises to be entertaining games from top to bottom. That being said, I can’t help but notice that perhaps the Chiefs schedule isn’t exactly how I thought it would be.

The Chiefs will open the league season against the Houston Texans in primetime  on the opening Thursday of the NFL season in Arrowhead stadium. Along with that they will play four other primetime games. This is not surprising in of itself, but what is surprising to me, are the games that are not primetime that should have been.

CHIEFS VS RAIDERS – SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11TH (WEEK 5)

There is nothing quite like (insert Boomer voice) RAIDERS week in KC, and especially in the middle of October, when the autumn evening  weather will be cool and crisp and absolutely perfect for tailgating at the greatest stadium in the league.

Now I know that the Chiefs are traveling to Vegas in week 11 and that is primetime, but the two games should have been switched. Listen, the allure of putting the Chiefs/Raiders in Vegas game in primetime makes sense what with the new stadium and the lights of Vegas, but come on.

First of all, the Chiefs are the defending Super Bowl champs and out of their five games under the lights this season, only two of those are in the friendly confines of Arrowhead in front of the sea of red. The champs deserve better then that, especially when going up against a division opponent – a division in which the Chiefs have utterly dominated for the last four years (soon to be five).

Secondly, I would not go as far as to say that there won’t be fans at the primetime game in Vegas, as plenty of Vegas tourists, Chiefs fans and Raider nation faithful will show up, but it will not be like the black hole days of old.

Both the Raiders and Chiefs made several good acquisitions during the 2020 NFL Draft, and October 11th will be the first time these two bitter enemies meet in the 2020 season. What better way to highlight a rivalry almost as old as the league itself, then putting it under the spot lights of Sunday Night Football?

The Week 11 primetime game in Vegas should be swapped with the Week 5 game at Arrowhead that is slated for a noon kickoff, and have the week 5 game moved to primetime.

The current game on Sunday Night Football for week 5 is Vikings VS Seahawks. I get it, it is a conference match up between two very stout teams, but is that really more intertaining than a divisional matchup between the Super Bowl champs and one of their most hated rivals under the lights of Arrowhead? I think not.
