KC Royals news surrounds the Kansas City Royals potentially playing in a 10-team division for the 2020 season. How would they stack up against the other nine teams?
While baseball fans still wait to find out if and when the 2020 season will be played, it’s still fun to speculate how the Kansas City Royals could fare in their temporary division.
For those not familiar with the story, Major League Baseball could opt to go with three divisions filled with ten teams each. The Royals would fall in the Central division, which would pit them against the Braves, Brewers, Cardinals, Cubs, Indians, Reds, Tigers, Twins, and White Sox. How would the Royals stack up against this group?
Well, to be perfectly honest – They’d be near the bottom and that shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. Three of the four National League teams landing in this division were playoff teams in 2019 and the one team that wasn’t has made some moves this offseason (including signing some guy named Mike Moustakas).
The teams in the Royals’ regular division aren’t anything special, but the Twins won the Central last year and the White Sox are slowly but surely building to something that could become special. Kansas City might be the second worst team in the division with only the Tigers being worse than them.

Fans want to be able to watch games at the K this summer, but even if they get to, it might not be against the usual set of foes. Teams would only play against teams in their division and that’d mean teams like the Braves, Brewers, Cubs, and Reds would be playing at Kauffman Stadium more this season alone than they have in the past decade.
It’d also put the Royals in an incredibly tough division where they’d likely be the ninth best (or second worst) team out of the ten.
