The draft is over and the Kansas City Chiefs’ roster is slowly coming into shape. That means it is time to start predicting what the active roster will look like when the season arrives.

It still feels weird predicting a 55-man roster rather than the traditional 53-man roster, but it is exciting because that is now two extra players that can be kept on the Kansas City Chiefs roster that are usually tough cuts.

As the offseason continues I will bring more finances into these predictions, but with Patrick Mahomes and Chris Jones still likely (hopefully) to get extensions in the coming weeks, I am going to give it a few weeks before I start to look at the financial side since these will likely be huge changes.

So without further ado, let’s make this 90-man roster into a 55-man roster.

Offense (27 Total)

Probably the biggest position battles to watch on the offensive side will be the interior offensive line and running back positions. Most of the difficult cuts and/or surprise picks to make the roster will likely be coming out of these position groups.

Quarterbacks (3)

Starter: Patrick Mahomes
Depth: Jordan Ta’amu, Chad Henne

The starting quarterback wasn’t the most difficult spot on this list to pick, but what I struggled with is whether or not to keep three quarterbacks. While I personally think it is kind of a wasted roster spot, the Chiefs kept three almost all year last year, so it’s probably a safe bet to assume they do the same this year as well.

The Chiefs also probably don’t feel 100 percent comfortable having only Ta’amu behind Mahomes quite yet and will like the veteran presence that Henne provides. Not to mention the Chiefs can’t create any cap space by cutting Henne this year, so it’s safe to say he is a lock to back up Mahomes this year.
