After not having anyone get drafted in the 2019 NFL Draft, Nebraska football had two players hear their names called in the 2020 NFL Draft and it happened to be brothers Carlos Davis and Khalil Davis.

Carlos Davis had to wait one more round than brother Khalil did, as Carlos became the 232nd pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, heading to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Davis had a nice career with the Nebraska Cornhuskers, but as far as his draft stock went, fans wouldn’t have been shocked for him to have gone undrafted.

Instead, Davis is headed to Pittsburgh to try and make an impressive on the Steelers for the 2020 season and beyond. While the Steelers aren’t quite the Steel Curtain of the 1970s, they’ve had good defenses over the years and Davis would be a nice depth piece to add to that.

The Husker had four sacks last season while also recording 32 tackles and defending three passes. According to Lance Zierlein of NFL.com, Davis graded out as an undrafted free agent, so him getting selected in round seven is exciting for him and his family.

Zierlein also had this to say about Davis and his potential NFL future,

"He has his share of wins against opponents when he’s playing in a phone booth, but his batting average of effectiveness plummets when he’s forced to play on the move. He’s not a plus run defender and offers no value as a rusher, so finding a fit will be tough."

Clearly the Steelers thought he could be a fit in their defense and hopefully he’ll be able to make good impression on them. Seventh round picks truly are boom or bust for most teams and sometimes they pan out, other times they don’t.

It was a good day for the Davis family, as both Khalil and Carlos got drafted and that’s really awesome to see. The two will have their work cut out for them with their new teams (Khalil is headed to the Buccaneers), but it’s good to see two members from the Cornhuskers get selected in this year’s draft after no one getting taken last year.

Surprisingly, Lamar Jackson didn’t hear his name called and that was the most shocking part of Saturday for Nebraska football fans. Jackson appeared to be the best Huskers prospect in this year’s draft, so for him not to get drafted was a big surprise.

Undrafted free agency will continue on for awhile, so continue to keep an eye on the Huskers who didn’t get selected over the 2020 NFL Draft. Go Big Red!
